June 20, 2018 @ 8:00 am - June 21, 2018 @ 5:00 pm
Midyear Check and Connect Institute
June 20 – 21, 2018
Embassy Suites – Orlando North, 225 Shorecrest Drive, Altamonte Springs, FL 32701
Why: This Midyear Check and Connect Institute is a follow-up to the Florida Postsecondary Education Program Planning Institute held in January 2018. The purpose of the Midyear Institute is to provide professional development and technical assistance to IHE teams to facilitate planning and implementation of Florida Postsecondary Comprehensive Transition Programs (FPCTP) for students with intellectual disabilities in all types of postsecondary education institutions: universities, state and community colleges, and career tech centers.
Who: We invite IHE planning teams and/or team representatives to participate – from institutions that participated in the January Institute or new teams not present at the January Institute. Relevant participants include members of postsecondary education program planning teams representing a higher education institution or career tech district consisting of higher education faculty and staff, disability service providers, equity coordinators, K-12 transition staff, parents, students, and other relevant stakeholders.
What: This event includes a 3-hour pre-institute workshop on credential development, and Institute content focused on innovative program characteristics, disability service supports, and research regarding evidence-based and promising practices relevant to postsecondary education and employment success.
Facilitators who worked with IHE teams during the January Institute will also be available to meet with teams/representatives to either begin and or continue FPCTP planning, development, and evaluation. See our draft agenda for details.
Cost: There is no registration fee for this event. Participants are responsible for their travel expenses, with this exception: As with the January Institute, the Florida Center for Students with Unique Abilities at UCF (FCSUA) will reimburse eligible institutions for the travel expenses of 50% of the institution’s team members. If your institution’s team includes 4 participants, the FCSUA will reimburse the travel expenses for 2 of those members; for 8 participants, reimbursement for 4 members; up to a total of 5 members whose travel the Center will cover. The institution is responsible for the other 50% of team members. Teams from institutions with FPCTP grants are required to attend and may use grant funds to cover their 50% of participant travel costs, in line with their approved grant budget.
